DISCLAIMER: Just to clear things up. I’m not saying that the company itself (Pharmanex, NUSkin, whatever) scams people. I just posted what my friend has said. It’s just that the methods of some of their recruiters are very questionable (ie, not getting straight to the point, forcing you to attend their meetings without appropriate details regarding the company, lovebombing, making it appear they’re doing you a favor when in fact it’s you who’s doing them/or gonna do them one). Just read on. And my friend, XXX has written something in the comments section. You guys should read it. And no, I’m not stopping you from joining. It’s still your choice if you want to join them. Basta ako, hindi sasali.
A friend (who asked me not to be named), IMed me just now, regarding my previous entry about the “youth entrepreneur program.” He was called by one of the members and he accepted their offer. He went there for one day, but after seeing their methods, he quit. Just read about their methods in the following conversation.

Whoah you got it there BA. Now that’s how my bro lost his 12k venturing into that when he was a Freshie.
April 14th, 2007 at 9:26 pm
Maki: Same “company?”
April 14th, 2007 at 11:17 pm
Ooooh.. Synergy. May close friend ako recruited me to that. May I link your blog (this entry)?
April 14th, 2007 at 11:19 pm
Tiffie: Sure. :)
April 14th, 2007 at 11:55 pm
Sigh. This again. The moment I found out about this (like 2003? 2004?) I’ve made up pretty nice excuses for people if they invite me again (which went on until this year o_o ) eeek!
*Is this expose type? ‘Coz I’ve asked other people and they said this method is “legal”? Correct me if I’m wrong. But, if it isn’t let’s do something about this (i.e., XXX nina Karen Davila!)
April 15th, 2007 at 12:01 am
Bong: They’re still inviting you until now? Me, I’m glad that so far I haven’t received more calls.
What do you mean by “expose type?”
And I’m not sure if this is legal or not. I don’t know who to consult. :s
April 15th, 2007 at 12:19 am
BA: Yeah…but it died down (whew!) They’re really persistent..
What I mean is that…if we can take this to the Media? XD
April 15th, 2007 at 12:22 am
Bong: Good thing!
Hmmm.. I guess so. Which media, traditional media or old media? lol
Wait, you weren’t present on iBlog3’s second day. :s
April 15th, 2007 at 8:10 pm
Can I email your post (the conversation) as an attachment to a friend at ABSCBN news dept? Or would your friend like to write somewhat a report about it? XD
Yeah, I wasn’t able to go back on the 2nd day…unfortunately x_x
April 16th, 2007 at 5:50 am
Bong: I guess you could forward my post to your friend. Still haven’t contacted my friend about that though.
April 21st, 2007 at 6:55 pm

I don’t have any idea how things work there until i read your post!
They already pissed me off while we’re having the conversation on the phone, what more if they ask me for some cash! the hell with them!
Thanks for dropping by at my page and telling me about the scam! :)
April 24th, 2007 at 11:29 pm
Hello, this is XXX, friend of BA. Just to clear things up (if certain kinds of ambiguity are still in the air), multilevel marketing is legal and their vision of providing high commissions to all recruits is very positive (assuming these recruits work hard enough, they reap what they sow). They also encourage a positive mental attitude when it comes to dealing with the stress and hardships involved in this line of work, making it a point that everyone in the business should be a hot molecule. HOWEVER, they use sly manipulation in order to convince people to join this enterprise, most of which are students since 1. they are unaware (well a number of them) of many things that happen in the world of business and 2. these recruiters take advantage of the compulsive/impulsive nature which is rampant among the youth, especially those who are eager to experience the sense of fulfillment brought about by earning their OWN money. The big loophole of this enterprise is their recruiting style. They give you shitloads of lovebombing, using sophisticated terms to the extent of lying (business entrepreneurship program in cooperation with SOMBA, international company in need of precocious workhorses, an offer limitted to a very selected few). They tell their recruits that they should not feel bad about this sly manipulation because they are giving these people a chance to improve their lives and earn smackers which are way above the charts. It really becomes a question of ethics because if you are sincere in your efforts of improving the (economic) life, you should be sincere when it comes to the details of this kind of work since not all people have the knack for networking and sales. At the end of the day, this sly manipulation builds a mountain of curiosity with the recruiter hoping that you spend 12.7K (or is it 12.6K? one of them). They get commissions from 1. Getting recruits and 2. From the products you or your downlines (your recruits) sell.
Another thing regarding ethics
They only tell you to make a list of 300 contacts once you’ve paid. This 300 contacts should comprise the following: name, description, and cellphone/landline number. They are also unreasonable with the time they alot for this, demanding that you hand it to them on your next visit to the 15th floor of Octagon building. They have this business incubator that teaches you how to do the sly manipulation involved in recruting. Pambobola, compliment, vague explanations of the enterprise, veering away from the subject if the person asks if it is pyramiding, multilevel marketing or Nu Skin, make yourself appear busy (calls are expected to range from 2-3 minutes only in order to create a mountain of curiosity), etc. They always make it appoint to text you things like “Hey (insert name), what time did I tell you to come? 5:00 pm or 6:30 pm?” They do this because getting your SOLID CONFIRMATION is so important to them. They accelerate your training by pushing you to call 10 contacts (with the use of a script) right in front of your uplines (the one who recruited you, the one who recruited your recruiter, the one who recruited him… etc) They have this mentality of moving by the buck, the faster you get recruits, the faster they get a percentage of your efforts. It’s moving by the buck.
At the end of the day, MLM may have a good vision of improving the lives of people, but they fail to realize the importance of ethics when it comes to carrying out their intentions. And with the kind of brainwashing of values they impose when it comes to the “correct” recruitment style, time does a good job of making these people numb. This method has made a lot of people in the business rich, but at the expense of something greater.
April 29th, 2007 at 10:08 pm
elo po! taga-up diliman po ako.. pumunta po ako sa octagon building kahapon.. well nung una na-enganyo talaga ako sumali (theres something about the video, blabla) pero naisip ko bat ko kagad mag madali sumali, bat di na lang ako magresearch muna so i googled my way into here.. well yes the money is real pero at what cost, yun ung di nila sinasabi.. finally an impartial site! of course if you look sa nu skin puro “pros” ang papakita and if you look at places liks scam.com puro “SCAM! SCAM!”, mukha namang nasa pareho tayo ng kalagayan eh.. matapang ka xxx! hehehe… ^^;
April 29th, 2007 at 10:15 pm
add ko lang (sorry for a double post) but they also say to produce the money kaagad kasi “un ung batayan kung gano niyo ka-gus2 tong oppurtunity na to.” lagi pa nilang sinasabi na “do u see the oppurtunity” ek-ek.. well naisip ko lang kaya nila siguro to ginagawa para di na mag-research ang mga tao at bigay pera na agad.. hayzz..
May 1st, 2007 at 8:17 am
@Agatha Geron: Good thing they pissed you off! Hahaha. At least you didn’t have to go to their office.
@XXX: Hello! And thanks, thanks, for the expose!
@the danimoth: Buti na lang nag-research ka!
May 2nd, 2007 at 9:46 am

Wow alm nyo be open to options, kaya kayo hindi umaansenso dahil sa pag iisip nyo. hnd nyo nga nkikita ung business kaya aun. magkanu ba kita nyo monthly ha? May 8th, 2007 at 1:48 am
AT LAST KUNG SCAM ANG NU SKIN COMPANY ITO SANA AY NA BALITA NA SA TV. MY SCAM BA NA 23 YEARS NA ON TRACK RECORD AT OPERATING IN 44 COUNTRIES? AT OFFICIAL SPONSORS NG OLYPICS FOR 11 YEARS, PUBLIC TRADED SA NEW YORK STOCK EXCHANGE. RESEARCH NYO PA SA NET YAN SAME RESULT MAKIKITA NYO, AT KUNG SA TINGIN NYO SCAM PARIN HAY NAKU SOMETHING WRONG WITH YOUR COMMON SENSE.
KAYA HINDI UMAASENSO ANG MGA TAONG KATULAD NYO SARADO ISIP NYO.
PUMUNTA KAYO SA OFFICE NAMIN AT MAGDALA KAYO NG OFFICIALS, PULIS, ETC TGNAN NTN KUNG MAKIKITA NILANG SCAM YUN. ANO?
May 8th, 2007 at 6:44 am
Dear Mr. Daniel,
First of all, I am not a business minded person. So if ever I opened my options to a business venture such as NU SKIN, I know I would FAIL, and I know that I WOULD LOSE MONEY.
I don’t earn anything monthly because I am still a student. And I don’t care if you earn 70000 a month. I’m not a money-hungry person. As the cliche goes, “man does not live on bread alone.”
Don’t you dare say na wala akong/kaming direksyon sa buhay at wala kaming mararating!
Mas maganda siguro kung kilalanin mo ako, bago mo sabihin yan.
Right now, instead of venturing into some networks like MLMs, I’m doing my best to study. Not the easiest way out, I know, but the most honest and rewarding one.
I never believed in “instant-big-money jobs.” Parang insulto sa intelligence ko (hahaha).
Another, I NEVER SAID THAT THE COMPANY WAS A SCAM. What I said was it was the METHOD OF RECRUITMENT (thus, the employee recruiting) which was the scam.
If you read my previous entry, there I showed how doubtful I was of the program, BUT, I did not say that it, the company, was a scam.
So please, Mr. Daniel, READ and KNOW THE PERSON before you say that the person has something wrong with his/her common sense.
The last time I checked, I know mine works fine. How about yours?
Good day.
May 8th, 2007 at 2:50 pm
SOMETHING WRONG WITH YOUR GRAMMAR
LOL
May 9th, 2007 at 10:41 am
i was invited din to their octagon office yesterday.. i’m really about to join but googled the company first.. i’ve seen ateneans and people with really good jobs who left their companies to join Nu skin so it’s very encouraging.. oh well, as i read the replies, i decided not to join na.. business is really all about profit but there are still other factors that one should consider.. Good luck and God Bless!
May 10th, 2007 at 12:21 am
Mr BA
First of all we are NOT RECRUTING PEOPLE. AND WE ARE NOT A MLMs system.NSE leverage business kami parang STARBUCKS. dont say anything bad about the company hindi mo nga NAKITA lahat tapos i po post mo to opinion lang ng ibang tao yan. . . Im also a student and hindi ko rin linya ang business im doing this partime i want to improve my life and dreams ok? 18 palang ako and I want my life to be good. You dont believe in “instant-big-money jobs” ahaha ako rin naman dude. Sinabi ko bang madaling business ito?at instant money? syempre hindi kailangan mo ng EFFORT. work smart and work hard wlang tama at mali dyan lahat yan TAMA. i choose to work smart.
so MR.BA dont post any message like this kung hindi mo nakita yung kabuuan ng business ok?
FOR ALL OF YOU GUYS OUT DER MAG RESEARCH KAYO ABOUT THE COMPANY AND DONT LISTEN TO OPINIONS NG IBANG TAO DYAN. TYPE NIYO LANG SA GOOGLE AY nu skin enterprise makikita niyo lahat lahat ng details dun.
good day MR. BA
May 10th, 2007 at 6:49 am
Ano ginagawa niyo? Nakikiparty sa mga tinawagan niyo? Clearly, it’s recruitment. I mean, how can you make a company grow if you don’t recruit any members?
Edi bakit masiyadong mapilit o aggressive yung ibang recruiters niyo?
Prove it. And don’t tell me na “I have to go to your office to see.” LOL. Even The GUIDON says NU SKIN is a multi-level marketing company.
I have heard numerous people say na their friends have made millions in MLM. Hands down to them.
Lol. Sige, work smart all your life.
Yeah, yeah, sure. So ako may kasalanan ngayon. Just read what my friend wrote up there. Siya nakita niya. I posted what he said word for word. Have you read what he wrote in here?
Of course, if you type your company’s name in Google, lalabas talaga yung magagandang details sa top results. Eh how about reading/researching further? Surely, hindi lang puro magaganda yung mga lalabas tungkol sa kompanya, and its employees, diba? There are many writers and bloggers out there who have experienced joining the company. Of course, some stayed. But there are some who, with all honesty, wrote what they saw, heard, and felt.
So kanino ako maniniwala?
May 10th, 2007 at 11:32 am
Mr. Ba
Dude hindi kami nakiki party sa mga tinatawagan namin. and the company is stable enough kht hindi kami kumukuha ng mga tao. Doctors and consumers around the world is enough. hindi namin kailangan pilitin ang isang tao na mag sign up.
Working smarter and working hard naintindihan mo ba walang tama at mali diyan ok? pareho tama yan. I choose to work smart kasi gusto ko mapabilis kung ano mararating ko ayw ko na parang rocking chair ako at gumagalaw wla naman nangyayari.ok?
BE OPEN TO OTHER OPTIONS kung may gusto ka. Simple as that.
May 10th, 2007 at 11:46 am
Mr. BA again
dude ung mga blog dito lang iyon ok? hindi mo nga nakita ung buong business un ang point ko. naniniwala ka sa sabi sabi ng ibang tao. bkt nag advance training na ba ung kausap mo? in business you have to put effort, yung kausap mo na si XXX ko ay wlang effort simula plang sumuko na sya hindi pa nga sya pumasa ng LOI. PATI sa studies mo my effort ka same here in this business ok? about the company Pyramid according to your post website. dude magkaiba ang PYRAMID sa FRANCHISE. Research mo nlng ang pagkakaiba nila. Dude kung my pinag aralan ka dont listen to people na sinisiraan ang company pumunta ka at see the whole thing dapat ikaw makikita hindi sila . Simple as that
May 10th, 2007 at 11:57 am
May 10th, 2007 at 12:30 pm
hey peeps, things work according to how we see things. siguro ng success is not for everybody since not everybody succeed. lalo na yung mga makitid ang utak sa pang unawa sa ibang opputunity na pwede nilang pasukan. pride and takling trash about things you really do not know will lead you no where and will eventually give you enemies. for as long as you help people improve thier lives, there is nothing wrong with you and with what you believe in. you people here are like doctors talking about laws or vise versa. you are not in the system and you do not know everything. pwedeng buksan ang utak, para mas marami kang malaman. yan hirap minsan sa taong masyadong matalino, wala ng paglagyan sa utak kaya hindi na nakakaintidi, saturated ba. but the question is, are you saturated with the right information?
May 10th, 2007 at 1:30 pm
Daniel:
Hmmm. Bigyan kita ng isang analogy.
Working harder: Carry a sack of rice towards the top of a hill. Get paid P1000
Working smarter: Ask a young boy to carry your sack of rice for you while you nap on the hillside. Pay him P50. Get the P950 for yourself.
hahaha.
Did you actually think na seryoso ako nung sinabi kong, “nakikiparty sa mga tinawagan niyo?” Lol.
Edi ano ginagawa niyo? I mean, why do the calls continue? A friend, if I remember correctly, was called twice, at the same month. Even if he showed no interest, he was called again.
So, bakit mapilit masiyado yung mga tao niyo pag tumatawag sila?
At least he had a clean conscience.
Saan ko sinabing pyramid ito? Prove it.
If I remember correctly, yung last na sinabi ko about it ay it was a “youth entrepreneur program.” Oh wait, yung sinabi ko pala yung “questionable yung methods.”
Here we go again with the “I can’t tell you about it. You must go to our office to see it.”
I don’t believe it, I don’t trust it, so why should I go and see? I didn’t outright say that the company was a scam. Yes I did say that the process of recruitment was scam-like (not saying the true nature of the job, giving lies instead). So bakit parang ang defensive mo naman, ha?
What I did here in my blog was just a heads-up to anybody who is considering joining. As information regarding the company is not disclosed when a potential member is called, at least right here, they could know some information, and they could be somewhat aware. But it’s still up to the person if she/he would want to go on with the venture.
Do the people have to believe in me? No. I’m just writing what I know. So… Wag ka masiyadong defensive. :)
May 10th, 2007 at 1:44 pm
Tama nga ba palagi?
Kunwari meron kang shabu company. Tapos may mga pusher ka. You help improve the pushers’ lives, diba. Pero pano naman yung ibang natulakan niya? Sa tingin mo tama ito?
Of course, I am not in the system.
May 10th, 2007 at 3:47 pm
May 10th, 2007 at 3:54 pm
May 10th, 2007 at 4:44 pm
OMG! BA, when i tried to search about Nuskin in the Phils, your blog came up! haha! grabe i thought promoter ka nila! My gosh! They emailed me last monday… I thought grabe, ibang level na marketing strategy ito! Buti nalang i came across your blog! Thanks! And to that David commenter, okay you are not forcing people to join you, so im out of your “marketing strategy” and go fool other people!
May 10th, 2007 at 9:25 pm
Mr. BA
okei ganito wag mo nmn i compare yung sinabi ni bilog hnd nmn kami shabu manufacturer. just do the comparison .ang layo dude. and this will be my last blog. and yung youth program and international program totoo iyon ok? hnd barbero iyon. we are qualifying this june to go to singapore for this youth international program. and we choose to work smart para mapabilis kmi sa dreams namin yun lng nmn yun. si XXX malinis nga conscience nya but this business is not for everbody ikaw ang gagawa kung magiging successful ka o hndi.
siya ay hindi. according sa blog na na post dito na pyramid ito balikan mo nlng para makita mo. franchise ito. and for those people na 3 times tinatawagan sbhn niyo nalang na ayaw niyo para hindi na kayo kulitin ng kulitin.
Last tama yung sinabi ni “kaibigan ni sheep man” bkt ako makikipag talo sa iyo eh buhay mo naman yan. my sariling dreams ko. and lastly mr ba you are not part of the system kaya hindi mo tlg alam ang nagyayari sa lahat lahat. Starbucks , mcdo, microsoft tec ang all network marketing same here pareho lng kami ng system. we dont recruit we just gave opprtunity to others. bsta alm ko at namin na part ng company legal and hindi illegal ang ginagawa namin we just have our own DREAMS yun lang nmn un. gusto ko pagtanda ko nag eenjoy na ko at ayaw ko na 50+ na ako subsob parin sa trabaho gusto ko kaagad makaipon for my future. ok? godbless
May 11th, 2007 at 6:42 am
Sorry.
Hmmmm.
But of course, I’m not really in the position to talk about how your company works. I just wrote up there an MLM turned scam. Rather than focusing on selling the products, members focus on recruitment instead. THAT’s the scam, not the company.
No, that was not your last blog. It was your last comment. :p This is MY blog.
How about the numerous times I heard that your program was a SOMBA (School of Management Business Acceleration) program? Last time I checked, Ateneo’s School of Management does not have partnerships with Pharmanex or Nu Skin.
Oo nga. MLMs have a high loss rate for new recruits. I read that
80% fail to meet their quotasin the States there is around 99.94% loss rate. People end up buying more products than they can sell. How many times do I have to ask you to prove that I said it was a pyramid scam? I own this blog, and I know what I wrote. And I know, with all honesty, that I didn’t write that it was a pyramid scam.
Aha! So you’re confirming na nagrerecruit kayo ng mga tao. Kung hindi, bakit niyo sila (well, kami) tinatawagan?
Teka, ikaw yung nauna, at ininsulto mo ako. Tinawag mo akong walang direction sa buhay, at walang common sense.
Last time I checked, Starbucks and Mcdo doesn’t ask it’s members to sell their products by word of mouth. Wala naman akong naririnig na Starbucks barista na tumatawag sa akin at sinasabing, “hey, do you want to make money? Come, come to Starbucks and know how to!”
Pareho lang kaya yun. You give them the opportunity, you ask them to join. Isn’t that recruiting?
Did I say what you were doing was illegal? What I merely said was the method was “questionable,” and should be avoided.
I too, want to retire by 50, just like my Mom. But compared to others, she worked with all honesty. She worked harder, not smarter.
God bless you too. May God bless your soul.

Mr. Ba hindi questionable method namin hnd ka nga part ng training at system panu mo nasasabi iyan.. we work with honesty and we work smarter. At why are you comparing the company with mirache dahon we are a big company so why are you comparing us with others. And we are not telling and forcing people to join we ask them to go to the presentation and after that if they dont want the business its ok we dont force them. the 80% fail anu source mo dun? 83% who stay with the company for 1 year became successfull . ang source namin dyan ay price waterhouse cooper the largets auditing firm. sa iyo testimonies lng ang nakikita mo. kasi yung iba 3 months palang quit na kaya failure.

Wow what a comment. yes nu skin enterprise is a networking company but how do you define networking? Maybe filipinos are negative in network marketing mdami na siguro nadala sa first quadrant after a year nagsara and all others networking etc after a year nagsara. What is the track record of Nu Skin/Phamanex/Big Planet? 24 years on the road and in 44 different countries. And look and reserach on the products its already PROVEN. we market our products its network marketing. Mr. Ba hindi totoo na 88% dont meet up their quota. Failure is different from quiters. Quiters quit because of excuses. konti challenge lang quit na. 2-4 months plang quit na. i think of that before. People ask me to stay after a year of 2 and you will see the result. and that its what im now I already made up my dreams. We have no failures we have quiters.
Research the products that we market and you will see. We are a big company.
Thats all,

I am not taking any sides in these seemingly endless points of argument. We are all entitled to our own opinions, sometimes to the extent of going beyond the limitation of the subject. Truly, Php12,600 is a big amount for the average Pinoy. And really, earning Php70,000 a month is a far-fetched dream for a regular 8-5 employee. An opportunity for one person may appear different to others.
I guess people are bound to claim that what one says is more factual than the other. Like any other study, a conclusion can be derived from both primary and secondary data. If one’s basis is his own experiences, then we know where that person is coming from. Sometimes credibility of the source is another question. If we do research, we can comprehend the subject well. But if we experience it ourselves and do our homework, we should know exactly where to stand.

hey. i found this post very helpful so thank you very much. I was contacted by an ann valencia last week who asked me to drop by their office this thursday. i asked for the company name and she kept changing the subject. their office address was the only information i had gotten, but it was enough for me to get your site. my suspicions have now been affirmed and you’ve saved me a trip from commonwealth to ortigas and back. :)

BA, Read “Rich Dad, POor Dad” by Robert Kiyosaki and Secrets of the Millionaire Mind by T. Harv Eker.
Don sa mga nakukulitan pag may tumatawag. Simply decline and say no. You can actually make a request, try it.

Bilog (aka Daniel): So nagkamali ako, hindi ako pumunta sa mga presentation niyo, and everything. Pero, kaya niyo bang i-explain ang ginagawa niyo sa kompanya nyo, right here and right now? Ang dali-dali magshare ng multimedia sa internet. Ganun ba talaga kahirap at kailangan ko pa talagang pumunta sa office niyo? I’ve had it with the “you have to go to our office” crap.
Mark: I didn’t explicitly say that network marketing is bad. I merely said what I heard from others, that the methods of the other members of network marketing firms (in this case, my friend’s experience with Nu Skin) are questionable. Kung na-offend man kayo o natamaan, sorry.
Seriously: I’ve read the wiki over and over, even going to the sites in the footnotes. :) For me, my source is credible, he is a friend of mine, and I trust that what he told is all true. And yes, I agree with you that P12,600 is just too big for an average Filipino.
Bossy: Wala akong oras eh. Sorry na lang.
Anne: I’ll try reading it when I find the time (and when I find the book). Because I’ve had a friend who claims to have been called at least 10 times.
