My kind
So here goes my obligatory entry for Burger King. But no, I’m not writing about them because they treated me along with 49 other bloggers (+3 companions each) free breakfasts, lunches, dinners, whatev. I’ve been meaning to write about their service after Josie and I’s visit to the newly renovated and revolutionized SM North Edsa branch a few months ago. But I’ve put it on hold since first, I didn’t have pictures, and second, I’ve been quite a bit lazy when it comes to blogging these days.
Anyways. Let’s quit it with the introductions, and start with the reason why I like, no, LOVE the new Burger King.
It caters to my kind.
What kind?
The laptop toting, WiFi surfing, PSP playing, iPod listening and cellphone texting kind.
The mobile kind.
Geekiness
I was overly excited in my first visit to the new Burger King. It was geekiness galore. Modern seats, brighter reds and orangey colors, free cellphone, PSP and iPod charging, and free wifey, err, WiFi! (Jimmy of Beerkada comes to mind). And thus I was more excited when I heard about Yehey! Philippines’ “Bloggers, have it your way at BK!” promo. I signed up immediately, and after a few days, I received an e-mail from Cristel Gonzales, stating that I was one of the 50 lucky bloggers participating in the event.
The food, the service, the experience
My visit to Burger King (E. Rodriguez branch) wasn’t a disappointment. Usually what I look forward to these kinds of events is the free food. But not this time, as I was more concerned with what Burger King had to offer besides food. To be honest, I’m not really a burger person. I cringe at the sight of burgers. So, there’s no food review from me here. Let’s just talk about the service and the experience.
The first thing I noticed was how cheerful the crew were (we visited the E. Rodriguez branch). Even if Mom and I haven’t told them yet that we were the bloggers that they would be feeding for free, they treated us as how they treated they regularly treated other customers: with a greeting and a smile. They only started pampering us when we said we were the bloggers who were there for the free food. :p (not like some other restaurant I know who would do the exact opposite).
The management sent us Quel, a member of their Aces Team: the team that attends to the restaurant’s customers, paying or non-paying. She was nice enough to patiently explain to us each item on the menu and what Burger King’s “have it your way” principle meant. And she explained it very well, even answering Mom and I’s follow-up questions. Sometimes the management of different restaurants sends people who look like they don’t know what they’re talking about. But this girl? She knew what she was talking about. Except for blogging, as she asked us how it works.
Anyways. What surprised and excited me the most with regards to their services is how selected Burger King outlets offer free massages to their customers. I thought that the lady who was standing by the doors was either kidding or referring to another job of hers when she offered my Mom a massage. I was like, “di nga? Masahe sa Burger King? Wehhh.” I was almost laughing until Mom accepted her offer. She produced a bottle of alcohol from her pocket and started massaging Mom’s back. And of course, Dad wanted in too. As for me, I don’t think that an almost exploding food filled tummy combines well with a back rub. According to Ate Emi (the masseuse), the free massages was in response to a survey they carried around 2 years ago. Now that’s having things your way! I always thought that my suggestions to restaurants go to moot.
I’m loving it!
No, I was not just referring to another fastfood chain in the header up there (if only they could do service like that). I love Burger King because it did live up to their “have it your way” principle. You’d think they just keep on saying and saying and saying that, but if you really look at it, probe in, and ask things to be done your way, you would get things your way. But with certain limits, of course, hehehe (Like you can’t ask them to stuff a large order of onion rings on your burger. I asked Quel if Burger King can do that for me. She said yes, they could put onion rings on the burger but just not too many rings. :p )
Well, they did things my way. So I’m happy. :)

grabe! nagulat din ako nung nasa trinoma kami once! may masahista! jin and i frequently go to BK e.rod kasi it’s on the way to her home. astig astig.
i think they changed their concept na from trying to contend too much with the fast food heavy weights mcdo and jolibee, and now putting more emphasis on customer service.
dati may burger silang rodeo cheeseburger. may onion rings. :)
