A Habit That I Have to Break

MUST. STOP. OBSESSIVE. EMPTYING. OF. TRASH.

Two weeks ago, I started emptying the Trash in my PowerBook, when I noticed that it was deleting 100++ files. I found it weird that I was deleting a whole lotta files, I decided to cancel the operation and see what I was actually deleting.

Lo and behold, my Applications folder was in the trash. :p And I just tried to empty it!

Anyways, thinking that I haven’t deleted anything important, I resumed to regular programming. Until one day last week, I needed to open the Terminal to, you know, terminal something in, only to find out that IT WAS MISSING.

Of all applications that I could misplace, I just had to lose Terminal. The super duper  uberly precious Terminal.

Being the kludge mechanic, engineer, programmer whatever I am, I tried copying our Mac Mini’s Terminal over to my PowerBook over the network. When it finally arrived, I discovered that the Mac Mini’s Terminal wasn’t compatible for my OS version because the Mac Mini had Leopard in it (yes, I’m stuck with Tiger in an old machine). So I immediately deleted it from my PowerBook, and emptied the trash.

2 hours ago, I was tinkering with my PSP, cleaning it up and deleting useless files; something that I shouldn’t have done through the Mac Mini because OS X doesn’t actually let you immediately delete your files. It just “erases” them and puts them in an invisible .Trash folder until  you securely empty the Trash. But, because securely emptying the Trash takes a lot of time time, I decided to let the PSP do the deleting of the ISO file (it’s faster that way). So I tried to open the Terminal to enable viewing of hidden files to reveal the hidden .Trash folder, when I discovered that our Mac Mini’s Terminal was also missing!

And it’s all because I kept on emptying my Trash. :p

Good thing that we had a copy of Mac OS X Upgrader CD and the Pacifist application in handy. I was able to extract a copy of the Leopard version Terminal for our Mac Mini that way. And, good thing my Mom’s running Tiger on her MacBook, so I was able to snatch a copy from her Applications folder.

Hahaha.

Actually, this entry is just about me ranting that I ACCIDENTALLY DELETED THE IRON MAN PSP ISO I DOWNLOADED FOR 4 HOURS AND THEN I EMPTIED THE TRASH AS SOON AS I WAS ABLE TO, LOSING THE GAME IN THE PROCESS.

:((

Cry. Oh well. 4 hours of my internet uptime and life, wasted.

    OH.

am guilty of same thing. was doing rather drawn-out process of conversion attempts and CD burning to folders i copied off a DVD.

long story short, i burned it, deleted the original, emptied the recycle bin, found out the copy didn’t work, and am now video-less. sheesh. :s

Holy crap you deleted your Terminal? That’s a big pain, I swear. That’s why I have two terminals installed on my eeeXubuntu.

I compulsively empty the trash, too :(

    What’s a terminal?

Ade: It was a pain looking for a copy of Terminal in the net. :p Good thing I was able to copy paste it from somewhere. Hahaha

Tiffy: Akala ko ba Mac user ka? Hanapin mo sa Applications/Utilities folder. Hahaha. It’s like Command Prompt for Windows, where, you know, type stuff in.
